At Pittman Seafoods, we always strive for the highest quality, from product to packaging. Our UHP lobster is one of the top products in our range: best loved for its sweet, juicy flavour as its ease of use. Now this outstanding product is getting a new look: a sustainable cardboard box that reflects our environmentally conscious DNA in every way, without affecting the high quality we’re known for.
Our UHP lobster is one of our star products. UHP stands for Ultra High Pressure. This unique process uses water pressure to separate the lobster meat from the shell. No heat is involved, so the natural moisture, firm texture and full flavour of freshly caught lobster are fully preserved. The result is a ready-to-use lobster with a longer shelf life and a shape that remains intact.
The UHP process allows you to remove the lobster meat from its shell quickly and easily. It’s almost as easy as pulling open a zipper. This unique combination of flavour, quality and convenience makes our frozen UHP lobsters a favourite in professional kitchens.
Retaining flavour and ease of use
A high-quality product demands packaging that provides protection while also enhancing the experience. We have not changed the tried-and-tested vacuum packaging of our frozen UHP lobster. What is new is the sustainable, cardboard box.
We opted for the natural brown colour of the cardboard instead of the previous version’s black (see photo with the old version on the left and our new box on the right). This substantially reduces the amount of printing ink required and gives the box a fresh, distinctive look. We have kept the iconic image showing a zipped-up lobster, but given it a modern, stylised twist. The box’s surface texture is not as smooth as the previous version, making it less likely to slide, which is useful when stacking.
Sustainable design with a smaller ecological footprint
Our new boxes are fully FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified. This certification guarantees responsible forest management, the replanting of trees and maximum use of recycled materials. The FSC label also stands for fair working conditions and the exclusion of child, forced and slave labour, across the production chain.
A minimum of 71% of the cardboard used comes from recycled sources. And the switch from lithographic to recycled paper translates into an 8% reduction in paper consumption. This new box marks another important step towards reducing our ecological footprint.
Same lobster, greener packaging
In essence, we are bringing together the best of both worlds in this new, sustainable box: the familiar taste and user-friendliness of our UHP lobster and packaging that is better for the planet. It’s one way we’re putting extra weight behind our mission to deliver top quality, while also respecting people and the environment.
