Pittman Seafoods looks back on a successful year in which our sustainable strategy played a key role. As a family business with a rich history, we believe we can make a substantial contribution to a better world through sustainable food. On that front, 2024 was a milestone for us.
Not only were we awarded the prestigious MSC Sustainable Seafood Award for the third year in a row, we also levelled up last year’s bronze EcoVadis medal to a silver one, encouraging us in our mission to stay on our sustainable course in 2025.
At Pittman Seafoods, sustainability is anything but a hollow concept. Be it carefully selecting our suppliers or optimising our processes, we always strive for solutions that are ecologically responsible, without making concessions in quality. That is why we are especially pleased that our efforts have not gone unnoticed by the outside world.
Hat-trick! Our third MSC Award
In September, the winners of the MSC Sustainable Seafood Awards were announced in Blankenberge. These awards recognise organisations that work to make the seafood industry sustainable and safe for present and future generations.
For the third year in a row, Pittman Seafoods received the award in the ‘Best Belgian Supplier’ category. Based on its discussions with commercial partners, MSC draws up a list of nominated suppliers, three of which are honoured as winners. Being among this select group once again means a lot to us. It also reaffirms our strong affinity with the MSC label, which promotes sustainable fishing worldwide.
Step forward with EcoVadis Silver
We are also pleased to have achieved an EcoVadis Silver medal this year. EcoVadis is a globally recognised platform that rates companies on their sustainability performance by examining their environmental impact, working conditions, ethics and sustainable procurement.
In 2023, we were awarded a bronze medal. Achieving silver in 2024 is an important step forward that reflects our ongoing efforts. It is a distinction that places us in the top 15% of rated companies worldwide. It also demonstrates that we have a robust system for managing our sustainability and that we are committed to transparency in our supply chain.
The EcoVadis scorecard also provides valuable insights to guide our continued improvement in 2025. We will continue our efforts to attain the highest standards in terms of environmental impact and ethical business practices. Obtaining this silver medal is certainly not an end point, but rather an incentive to further our efforts with the same drive.
Sustainability and commercial success go hand in hand
Looking ahead to 2025, we remain committed to a sustainable fisheries sector. This means that we will continue to invest in responsible sourcing, close and sustainable collaborations with our partners and innovative business processes. Finding the right balance between affordable seafood – without compromising on quality and food safety – remains crucial.
Achieving our third MSC Sustainable Fish Award and EcoVadis Silver rating underscores the fact that sustainability and commercial excellence are perfectly compatible. At Pittman Seafoods, we also believe that a positive commercial attitude is the driving force behind an increasingly sustainable way of working. By continuously improving our processes and only working with like-minded partners, every move we take is one step closer to a future in which sustainability is the norm.
Every day we are backed by our customers and partners in striving for a world in which sustainable food is not only possible, but taken for granted. That is why we would like to extend our thanks to you for being part of this journey. So, let’s join together in raising a toast to a sustainable and successful 2025!
